SOPHICIDE: German Tech Death Metallers announced Willowtip Debut

German technical death metal sorcerers, SOPHICIDE, announced the release of their debut, Perdition Of The Sublime. Set for North American release on August 14, 2012 via Willowtip Records, the 11-track long player was recorded, mixed and mastered by founder Adam Laszlo at his home studio and features the striking cover design by artist Steve Voigt.
Formed as a one-man-project in 2009 by Laszlo, then 19, SOPHICIDE  fuses elaborate melodies with battering technical brutality into a sound that’s as malicious as it is memorable. Meaning "murder of wisdom," SOPHICIDE describes the state of modern society and serves as the central theme of Perdition Of The Sublime. Notes Laszlo: “It's another word for anti-intellectualism. People are stupid, ignorant and seem to be proud of it. This is a disturbing trend.”
“I'm really keen to release this album,” he continues of the release. “I've put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it and I hope people can connect to it as I do. Basically the overall theme coincides with the meaning of ‘sophicide.’ Intellect and enlightenment seem to be displaced by religion and casting shows. There’s this overall apathy, people don't seem to give a shit about anything as long as they get their cheap meat and TV shows. This is what POTS is basically about, although the focus is on religion, after all it's the elephant in the room.”

The first single release from album is called "Red" and it's released in August, "X" comes out late in September via Nuclear Blast Records.

MORTIIS: Vinyl Reissue Announced for "Keiser Av En Dimensjon Ukjent"

The exploration of Mortiis' classic "Era1" recordings continues this summer with the re-release of his 1995 album, "Keiser Av En Dimensjon Ukjent," by Italian label Ordo MCM on July 23.

"Keiser Av En Dimensjon Ukjent" delves deeper into Mortiis' passion for creating dark, epic soundscapes, inspired by the unlikely combination of black metal, KISS/WASP, and Tolkien. "I always said those elements got thrown into a hotpot and out came Mortiis," he said.

Though the album's two tracks, "Reisene til grotter og Ødemarker" and "Keiser Av En Dimensjon Ukjent," were recorded entirely using synths, the writing process behind the tracks was a much more organic experience.

"I wasn't using sequencers or any other means of recording parts and ideas as I went along, so everything was by ear and making notes," Mortiis said. "I'd come up with parts I liked, and keeping those in mind I'd come up with other parts that I thought would layer correctly on top. It was all about remembering things. I used a color-coding system when I wrote the music down. It wasn't sheet music or notations of any sort, just me writing down the name of the sound in blue, red, green, or whatever, and also the settings for each sound in brackets, like amount of reverb, release, decay, et cetera. I only really owned one synth, which was a cheap Roland JV30 - real entry level stuff, but it had some good sounds on it."

"Keiser Av En Dimensjon Ukjent" will be distributed in the US by Hells Headbangers (www.hellsheadbangers.com) and 20 Buck Spin (www.20buckspin.com). The release will be available in Europe via the Ordo MCM website.

Denver Thrashers SILENCER to Release The Great Bear on September 25th

Denver thrashers SILENCER will release The Great Bear on September 25th. The album is the group's third full-length album and their first concept record. The band has this to say about the music of The Great Bear, an approach that took the band back to its heavy metal roots.

Silencer has followed a steady progression of thrash through the years, bordering on the extreme on recent releases. On this album we rewind to more 70's and 80's influences, aiming to bring a bit more rock back into metal without sacrificing any punch; things like big choruses and hooks as opposed to our previous works' all out intensity and such. We were definitely influenced by concept albums such as Rush's 2112 and Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime (among others) in putting together our story. This album musically is more denim, spikes, spit and vodka than anything we've done.

Conceptually, SILENCER takes a look at the U.S-Soviet space race of the 1950s/1960s and asks some "what if" questions.

Lyrically, we rewind back to space race era Soviet Russia, and we chose to take a fictional turn towards what would have happened if the Russians chose to one-up the American's moon landing by going somewhere further. We tell the story from the Russian perspective, and try to capture the mentality of a union that could mobilize their entire population to achieve a goal, and also from the perspective of a member of this mission. This sort of story almost wrote itself, and its mood lent us to write some more straightforward yet very heavy tracks. It's definitely more thematic than prior releases, but aims to get to the point and tell a large story fairly efficiently.

The Great Bear will be distributed by Vanity Music Group and will be available in stores, iTunes and Amazon MP3. Available physical formats are CD and limited edition 180-gram vinyl. SILENCER will be performing on select warm-up dates and are in the planning stages for tours following the album's release.

The Great Bear Artwork & Track Listing:

01. Sacred War
02. I Am Thunder!
03. 1969
04. Great Bear
05. Insignia
06. Star City pt. I
07. Star City pt. II
08. Orders/Noble Sacrifice
09. The Roar
10. Light
11. The First, The Last

Formed in 1998, Silencer began their career on the strength of two self-released EPs Kozmos (2000) and Structures (2002). Built on a foundation of thrash, Silencer added increasing amounts of melody, intensity and high concept. Almost immediately these became highly sought after in the metal underground, as the band shipped copies box after box both domestically and overseas to independent distributors, boosted by a slew of strong worldwide 'zine reviews. Many more copies were moved as a result of their heavy gigging schedule which saw them crisscross the western US several times, appearing at a number of signature metal festivals, and anywhere else that would let them plug in.  Silencer's first official release came in the form of Found on the Sun (2003), released by Italy's Steelheart Records and earning the band its first real European distribution. After more domestic touring, the band moved to a five piece and began work on their first full length album entitled Death of Awe (2005), released on Mausoleum Records. The band further pushed their thrash roots to breakneck speeds on this release, signifying the largest step yet in their progression. Another western US run later, the band regrouped to write the follow-up. Equally dense and furious as the prior release, the band focused on a more epic delivery of their now very cutting edge thrash sound. In early 2009 Divisions was released on F-Bomb Records. Metal Hammer's revered Malcolm Dome wrote about Divisions, "Silencer have learnt the cunning art of writing songs with a purpose. There's still life in thrash". Now after another musical evolution and a lineup change that reverts the band back to a familiar four piece, Silencer rewinds the influence clock a few decades back and tackles their first concept record. Musically more direct than previous album, The Great Bear releases worldwide September 2012.

HELLSAW TO TAKE INDEFINITE BREAK

In a statement issued today, Austrian Black Metallers HELLSAW announced their intention to take an indefinite break from their activities. All scheduled tours and appearances during 20012/13 have been cancelled. Citing “personal reasons” for the decision frontman and founder Aries had this to say: “We may be back, or we may be back as something entirely different, but whatever happens in the future we would just like to thank all the fans who have shown us such phenomenal support and all the people who have worked with us to make HELLSAW what it is today”

Formed in 2002 by Aries, and then-drummer Svart, HELLSAW’s current lineup includes Aries on vocals, Malthus and Isiul on Guitars, Desderoth on Bass and Neuroticon on Drums. With five full-length albums under their belt, HELLSAW are one of the leading Black Metal bands to emerge from Austria in recent years. The band’s use of instantly recognizable melodies which stay firmly in your memory, coupled with a respect and understanding of what it really takes to make a good Black Metal band created a sound that was unmistakably HELLSAW and culminated in the release of their fifth album “Trist” earlier this year on Napalm records. More information about HELLSAW can be found at http://www.hellsaw.com

Below you can see the official video of HELLSAW performing the track “The Black Death” from the “Cold” album live at Party.San.
