EARTH's Entire New Album Streaming On NPR

Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1, the latest organic opus from EARTH, is now streaming in its entirety as an NPR "Exclusive First Listen." Click here to check out the whole album, where it will stream for free until February 7th.

Set for release on February 22nd, once again for Southern Lord Recordings, Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1 represents yet another new chapter in the EARTH lineage, as the band continues to expand their trademark slow-morphing drone a bit beyond the realms they've explored on their last handful of releases and recent years of touring, and continuing to reproduce continually inspiring music as they have with every recording to date.

EARTH have also announced an official hometown record release show for Angels Of Darkness, Demons Of Light 1, scheduled for March 3rd at The Tractor Tavern in Seattle.

EARTH Record Release Show:
3/3/2011 The Tractor Tavern - Seattle, WA w/ Mount Eerie, Low Hums

More live actions for the band are being confirmed now and will be announced as they're available.

"As Earth developed its heavy instrumental vision in the past six years, subtle deviation has been crucial to the band's renewal. Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1  is the latest installment in that trajectory, adding a cello, desert blues and British folk-rock motifs to Earth's slow-moving Americana." - NPR

"While Angels of Darkness... is Earth's cleanest record, it is perhaps their most focused, as well as one of their darkest. The album emanates looming disaster while still retaining the haunting shadows which stretches from its boots." - Chronicles Of Chaos

"...finds the band as unwilling as ever to settle creatively, toying with titular contradiction, fostering a previously-unheard richness of tone and taking their rightful place at the head of their genre." - The Obelisk

"Soothing, tranquil, spacious, this album is good for long, unplanned, contemplative walks with naught but your own a-wanderin’ thoughts to keep you company." - Burning Ambulance

"A spellbinding piece of art. 9/10" - Metal Assault

"The layers they have beautifully constructed on Angels... is quite like a symphony that makes you patiently listen and take in every long sustaining note. 5/5" - Stereokiller

"...a new album that shows not only are they still progressing and evolving but are still the leaders of the minimalistic doom aesthetic." - Doommantia

"...the band pushes the envelope once more with a darker side to things then in their previous releases. Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1 is an album that features 5 tracks of sheer brilliance..." 95/100 - Infernal Masquerade

DEAD NEON Release Video For "Downwinder"

Las Vegas-based nuclear doomists DEAD NEON have recently released a video for the track "Downwinder" off their self-titled debut album. The video, directed by Steven Horlock, can be viewed below.

Dead Neon is the primitive nuclear doom metal project of Las Vegas poet Jarrett Keene. Inspired by a morbid tour of the Nevada Test Site with only Goatlord's Distorted Birth and Leonard Cohen's The Future loaded on a half-broken iPod, the music of Dead Neon conjures a dreadful world ravaged by atomic conflict, where survivors inevitably succumb to radiation, starvation, each other. A writer by trade, Keene taught himself guitar in the months following his test site visit, shaping crude yet corrosive riffs designed to evoke the din of warheads and dirty suitcase bombs slamming into the Strip at twilight. In February of 2010, he conscripted friends from Vegas' mutually exclusive deathcore and indie-rock scenes-Jaq (bass) and Jessie (drums), respectively. The trio recorded directly into a Korg D888 in an abandoned warehouse behind a topless megaclub off Tropicana Avenue, resulting in a raw, full-length slab of blackened sludge-punk minimalism. Having earned a Ph.D. in English from a university in the metal-rich state of Florida, Keene composes lyrics that possess the depth of literary verse without sacrificing the dark sensibility inherent in aggressive music. Dead Neon's self-titled debut (released on 100 limited-edition cassettes by Vegas crust-punk/black metal label Ecophagy Records on September 15, 2010) contains a few surprises, like spoken-word intro "Advisory (Go to the Boneyard!)" and the album's final blown-out-dashboard-radio-at-earth's-end folk anthem "Ride the Light." But mostly Dead Neon just bashes you on the skull with a ferocity that has no rival. This is the perfect soundtrack for driving a post-apocalyptic desert highway overrun with mutants. insane thrill ride through the wastelands of an apocalyptic future. -

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome set to music and voiced by Cronos. -

The songs are Keene's morbid depiction of the goings-on in a dreary desert nothingness, evoking a landscape somewhere between the ones in Heavy Metal and Wall-E -- but with more mutants and carnage. -

Dead Neon mastermind Jarret Keene was recently interviewed by FuneralRain.Net. Check out the conversation here.

Apostate Chill Bones and Wrecks Souls with "Trapped in a Sleep"

Veteran Ukrainian doom/death act APOSTATE released Trapped in a Sleep late last year on Black Art Records and listeners lucky enough to have experienced it are still thawing out and paying contractors for the repairs to their damaged souls. A collection of dynamically composed songs that combine doom's crushing despair with death's frightening aggression in a way that continually captivates, Trapped in a Sleep is a work that is strangely beautiful, darkly majestic, and impossibly heavy.

"Apostate has always been one of the best representatives of Ukrainian doom metal music. The album is a must-have." - Dmitriy "Tiamat" (Ukrainian gothic/doom band IDOL)

"We've got something really new for Ukraine within doom/death, which sounds modern but at the same time like the older European doom metal of the nineties."  - Just Doom Zine

"It's like something new that you can listen together with the records of the nineties and you won't even notice the difference. Stylish and powerful record with high-quality sound that may stay in record libraries for a long time."  - Rock Lviv Zine (8/10)

"The sound on Trapped in a Sleep is certainly comparable to the British sound, although less strong gothic influences like My Dying Bride. For fans of old Anathema and Paradise Lost. The music sounds wonderful...deserves to be heard."  - Zware Metalen (88/100)

Apostate was formed in 1993 in Lviv (Ukraine). The first demo Consign to Oblivion was recorded in 1995. This tape was very well received by Ukrainian underground press and fans. In 1997 appears an EP A Song of the Dead Lake. This work and plenty of live performances brought for Apostate a cult status. The band split up in 1998. In 1999 vocalist gathered new line-up and continued Apostate, but in 2001 they disbanded again.

In 2007 compilation From Consign To Oblivion to A Song Of The Dead Lake was released. Its positive feedback was the reason why Oleksandr Kostko (bass guitar) decided to reanimate Apostate in January 2009. During 2009-2010 the band has actively played live (including Doom Over Kiev III fest), sharing the stage with the renowned bands such as Cemetery Of Scream, Skepticism, Sadist, Crionics, Virgin Snatch, Parricide. Especially precious was the experience of supporting Therion in part of their "Sitra Ahra" tour across the Baltics. In October 2010 the new album Trapped in a Sleep was released. Currently the band is planning a European tour in support of this album for 2011, as well as writing material for the next album.

 Current line-up:

 Olexandr Kostko - bass
 Volodymyr Dejneko - guitars/vocals
 Bohdan Kozub - vocals
 Ihor Kudyk - drums
 Oleh Biblyj - keyboards

Today EPISODE 13 has a world-wide fan base and is one of the few bands to have gained credibility and a large following outside of Turkey. GRADVAL got a brand new player on SoundCloud

Formed in 2005 by guitarist Phobos (AETERNUS, MALSAIN) and drummer Taakesjel (BIZARREKULT), GRAVDAL is a Black Metal band firmly rooted in Norway’s legendary Bergen Scene. A scene that over the years has spawned such seminal bands as GOROGOROTH, ENSLAVED, IMMORTAL and TRELLDOM - to name but a few.

Starting out initially with the idea of remaining a studio band, GRAVDAL recruited vocalist Galge and recorded the first demo, “Massegrav” in 2005. However, shortly after the release of “Massegrav, it became obvious to the members that they wanted more from their music, and so a full line up was established with the addition of Specter (AETERNUS) on guitars and Daud on bass. Specter and Phobos began composing music together and with a now solid line up GRAVDAL hit the stage for the first time in 2006, and have since played with bands like TAAKE and DERIDE, and recently supported GORGOROTH on their European tour and have played at both the Inferno and Hole in the Sky Festivals.

With their debut album “Sadist” mixed and mastered by ENSLAVED’s Herbrand Larsen at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen, GRAVDAL inked a deal with Sweden’s Unexploded Records, and “Sadist” was released in 2008 to great reviews in the metal press world-wide.

The 2010 release of the band’s sophomore album “Torture Mantra” revealed the band’s new-found maturity in terms of both material and performance, and a guest appearance by SHINING’s Niklas Kvarforth confirmedGRAVDAL’s ability to surprise and innovate, whilst still remaining solidly grounded in the Black Metal Genre. The album was once again Recorded at the the Conclave and Earshot Studios, with Herbrand Larsen being joined by VULTURE INDUSTRIES’s Bjornar E. Nilsen at the production helm.

NACHTMYSTIUM: North American Tour With Cradle Of Filth Begins In Mere Days

The anticipated Creatures From The Black Abyss Tour -- featuring Chicago's black meddlers NACHTMYSTIUM as direct support for Cradle of Filth -- embarks this Tuesday, February 1st! The massive expedition will invade 30 North American cities, engulfing the continent in a clockwise vortex over the next six-and-a-half weeks.
